Understand the Rating

Every RESB rating answers two things: how explicit it is, and what is in it.

Descriptors

Each letter is a category, and each category is a set of named descriptors — F covers five different ones, for example. A letter appears on the box when at least one descriptor in its category is present, so F tells you force is depicted without saying which kind. The rating record behind the box names the specific descriptor; the box is the summary. Some descriptors are graded, and the + means one of those is graded above moderate.

To see the full vocabulary and the definition of each descriptor, reference the Standards.

Putting It Together

A box reading H / F R P + is a hardcore title featuring force, restraint and power dynamic, with the + flagging that at least one of them is above moderate.

What It Doesn't Mean

The box describes the content and does not judge it. It records only what is performed on screen, never real conduct: these are professional performances in fictional works.
